Personal Notes: Left William Torbitt and went to Lister Technical School in West Ham, after a year I moved to Robert Clack Technical School in Dagenham, started work in 1961 as a fitter machinist apprentice at a company called Lehman Archer and Lane Ltd in Fairlop Rd, Fairlop.
After nearly 6 years I started as a workshop technician at Queen Mary College, Stratford. I worked there for two years then emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1969. After 3 months and 3 jobs, I started work as a mechanical engineer with Hoover Australia Pty Ltd, I continued in many positions with Hoover for over 30 years finishing up as engineer in charge of prototype manufacture and running the model shop. I left Hoover after the company was broken up in 2000. Worked for myself until 2005 then retired officially. I have very fond memories of Miss Fitch, she went the extra yard for me and I feel she may be responsible in some way for my great life.
